It’s already November. The leaves have turned and fallen, and we’ve pulled the blankets out of the closet. A few weeks ago we dug around in the basement to locate coats, hats, gloves and boots so that they could air out and to assess any damage we may have missed.

Now that 2010 is drawing to a fast close, do you think it’s time to assess the damage done to your health this past year? Instead of the typical New Year’s health resolution, maybe you’d be more successful implementing positive changes ahead of the curve.

Nutrition. Most of us don’t eat well-rounded meals, so we either miss out on vital nutrients or take a daily multivitamin to bridge the gap. It can be hard to eat a balanced meal three times a day. Consider the “baby steps” approach and start concentrating on a single meal. Apply what you know and choose the right foods in the right portions. That wasn’t so bad, was it?

Exercise. In addition to a daily multivitamin and better meals, think about simple ways to work in some muscle activity. If you don’t mind the winter weather, consider earmarking 15 minutes of your lunch for a walk. It wil not only get your blood moving but possibly clear out your mind as well.

Hydration. That hunger pain you feel each morning about 10am? That may not actually be hunger (unless, of course, you eat empty calories for your 8am breakfast). That pain may be your body telling you to drink some water. Water plays a huge role in metabolizing and processing the food we consume into energy, and when we’re short on water our body goes into a survival mode. You may get headaches, feel hungry, or feel mentally slow. Grab a daily multivitamin and some water and take a short break from your desk.

These tips should help you get a foothold on healthier habits for 2011.

At some point in our lives we will experience Heartburn, Acid Reflux or the more severe GERD this in most cases will be due to what we eat, how we eat, poor health and other factors which will discussed shortly.

When you suffer from heartburn what is actually happening is that your stomach acid is fuming then it refluxes and enters the esophagus resulting in a burning sensation, pressure and pain in your chest.

Now when your stomach content backs up through the lower esophageal sphincter valve and enters the esophagus this is known as acid reflux and as you know is quite distasteful and unsettling.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease more commonly know as GERD is a result of the lower esophageal sphincter valve failing to work properly since it does not close the way it is supposed to. This can lead to other gastric problems that can be quite severe.

There are many OTC as well as prescription medications available to treat this condition and I’m sure you’ve seen more than your share of advertisements on TV, Magazines, Radio and the Internet. Though some of these work they are only a temporary solution and do not address the underlying condition of the problem.

The best way to treat the condition is to Prevent Heartburn And Acid Reflux in the first place.

There are several factors that can contribute to you getting heartburn, acid reflux and gerd, dealing with these can greatly reduce the episodes of heartburn, acid reflux and gerd.

Stress – It’s a common fact that stress plays a major role in our overall health so do your best to Reduce Your Stress Levels.

Eating Fast – Stuffing your face because in a rush to go somewhere or do something effects your digestion. Take time to eat your food properly and make sure it’s a balanced meal your stomach will thank you for it.

Over Eating – If you like to binge eat because you just love food stop it, your stomach has it’s limits and you’re forcing it to task itself if all you do is stuff your face with food.

Excessively Spicy Foods – Some of us like spicy foods, but your stomach may no feel the same way once it has to digest it. Easy up on those spices, find other healthy alternatives to add that zing to your meals.

Smoking – We all know Smoking Is Bad For You Cancer and the like… and it’s also bad for your digestion.

Alcohol – Over consuming alcohol is another no no. Too much alcohol can effect your digestion so reduce your consumption of it.

Lack Of Exercise – It’s important that you maintain good physical conditioning, Exercise does just that for you and can greatly help in maintaining good stomach health.

Food Triggers – Take note of the foods that trigger your heartburn and acid reflux and try to remove them from your diet.

For those of you that take OTC Medications like antacids to deal with your heartburn and acid reflux, that consuming antacids on a regular basis can also make your condition worst by making your stomach produce even more acid, and that taking such medication right before or after a meal can interfere with the stomachs digestive processes causing more problems for you down the road.

Tackle you heartburn and acid reflux early by facing the problem head on and not just putting it off until it gets to the point where you don’t know what to do and you may require very serious medical intervention.

Anyone who wants to get into the fray of body building understands that to produce the best possible results, one needs to have the discipline needed to undergo the long and tedious process of building muscle. Some people may also get into the use of body building supplements in order to achieve better results. As most commercial products go, not all body building supplements are guaranteed to work. Some manufacturers advertise and market these supplements with claims of producing lean muscle in just short periods of time. One should be wary of these false claims and should never accept any supplement at face value.

There are, however, some supplements that cause positive effects in a body builder’s body. Before starting on any of these, one must know the effects these supplements have.

-	Protein supplements

A body builder’s protein requirements greatly exceed that of the normal individual. Body builders constantly tire out their muscles through dieting and training. Because of this, they will need a proper and well balanced diet for muscle growth and recovery. Protein supplements do just that. This body building supplement contains the required amount of protein for body builders, with no fillers, carbohydrates and sugar. It is most preferable for body builders who are training for competitive body building. Body builders may get this supplement in the form of powders and bars.

-	Meal replacement powders

Meal replacement powders, also referred to as MRP’s, are a well balanced meal in itself with all the nutrients needed to fulfill a body builder’s daily requirements. These supplements offer a convenient way to take in your protein needs and are a great fast food alternative. Meal replacements should be taken instead of a meal, not with a meal or in-between meals. These supplements are sold in pre-measured packs that are usually mixed with milk or water. The price of meal replacement powders is very varied so it is best to shop and do research before buying anything in bulk.

-	Fat burners

Most often derived from plants, fat burners are compounds that affect the body builder’s metabolism by increasing the body’s production of heat. Almost all commercial fat burns are made based on a substance called ephedrine which is a thermogenic aid. An effective fat burner is essential for good muscular definition but before using any fat burners, it is always best to get the advice of a physician.

-	L-Glutamine

One of the essential amino acids, L-Glutamine is vital to any body builder as it has a sparing effect on the muscles especially after extensive physical stress. L-Glutamine supplements can aid in the reduction of muscle deterioration that may happen because other tissues that need glutamine take from the muscle-s stored glutamine.
