Nowadays, women are scared of breast cancer, since about 212,000 women were diagnosed with it in the USA in 2005. Pink ribbon is a women’s movement to find a cure for it.

As everybody is expecting a cure for it, I think find the most risky factor is more important. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Although doctors will tell you if you have a family history of breast caner, you are at high risk for it, but most women diagnosed with it are without a family history.

After analyzing tumor tissues, medical science classifies breast cancer to three types.

1. Hormone-positive type: About 60 % to 70% of patients are in this type. The tumor growth is driven by excess amounts of estrogen or progesterone. The treatment is tamoxifen which blocks the absorption of estrogen.

2. Her-2 gene mutation type: About 20 to 30 % of patients are in this type.

The aggressive tumors are caused by a mutation in the Her-2 gene. The treatment is Herceptin which blocks the genetic mutation.

3. Triple-negative tumors: About 10 % of patients are in this type. The tumor growth is not sensitive to hormones or Her-2. There is not much we can do about this type except surgery and radiation.

So, the genetic mutation is only counted to about 20 to 30 % of breast cancer. Most people have hormone-positive type.

Bingo! The No. 1 risk factor for breast cancer is excess amounts of hormones.

That makes perfect sense. Women can feel breast tender after taking some hormone pills because breast tissue is hormone sensitive.

No wonder breast cancer is epidemic toady. In fact, we live in the ocean of hormones, such as food produced by growth hormones, birth control pills, and hormone therapy.

A rotten egg or ammonia smell in your home may not be the result of something that you just cooked or cleaned with. Although some things can linger for a while, they usually go away when you air your house out or use air fresheners. When the smell lingers, after trying several things to get rid of it, is when you need to worry more. An underlying problem may be the culprit. If you have Chinese drywall in your home, you may want to check it first.

Chinese drywall is imported from China and used in many buildings being constructed today. Construction of new homes and commercial buildings in the U.S. has been found to use this material. Chinese drywall has been found to release toxic sulfur compounds that emit an offensive rotten egg smell, which can cause extensive damage to your home and your health.

These sulfur compounds can corrode and deteriorate copper wiring, pipes, air conditioning units, refrigerator coils, plumbing fixtures, plumbing equipment and household appliances. Imagine what it could do to your health if it can destroy all these things in your home. The level of odor can vary, depending on how much drywall was used in the construction of your house and the sensitivity that you have to smells.

The sulfur compounds that are mentioned here are also known as hydrogen sulfide. This gas has no color and can be very poisonous. It is also very flammable. It has a foul odor of rotten eggs. Because of its density, it usually sinks to the bottom of non-ventilated areas. When breathed in, it can quickly deaden the sense of smell, so victims may not realize that they are in danger until it is too late.

Hydrogen sulfide can poison several different systems in the body. The nervous system seems to be most affected by this gas. The human body has a way of detoxifying low levels of this compound on its own, but once the body reaches the level that it cannot tolerate the gas any longer, that’s when you will start to notice more prominently the effects of the gas. Some symptoms to watch for are eye irritation, sore throat, coughing, nausea, shortness of breath, fluid in lungs, fatigue loss of appetite, headaches, irritability, poor memory and dizziness.

You need to take precautions if this is the case and you think that you may have drywall imported from China in your home or you are having symptoms that only seem to bother you inside your home. If at all possible, leave your home until you contact a certified, licensed drywall inspector. It is important for you to call professionals immediately for your safety. They are committed to putting your safety first by finding the root of the problem. Drywall inspectors can also check for deteriorating drywall, mold damage resulting from water leaks and flood damage. They will help you with mold remediation and property restoration.

A cat’s food allergy is a difficult thing to assess. Once it has been determined that a food allergy is the problem, the diet of the cat needs to be examined. Cats can be irritated by sarcoptic mange (scabies), fleas, and inhalation allergies (seasonal pollens for example) but a food allergy has been cited as one of the itchiest afflictions for a cat. Store-bought cat food tends to be seriously processed. Food colorings and a general lower quality of ingredients can play into this. A recent diet change can be also be the culprit. Most interesting however, is the fact that the determination of a food allergy can only really take place if all fleas are eradicated from the pet. A flea bite can at times produce a similar allergic reaction that of a food allergy.

There are several other factors that need to be discerned before a food allergy can be the “arrived upon” diagnosis. Cats will display their discomfort through unkempt hair, continual scratching of infected, crusty skin and possibly even recurring ear infections. Food allergies produce similar results to sarcoptic mange, and flea reactions, but they are a form of atopy. Atopy is characterized by irritation to areas of the body that hasn’t been in direct contact with the allergen. This is why it is very important to determine if the atopy is food related or inhalation related. Pollens, dust, and dust mites can all provide atopic dermatitis similar to that of a food allergy.

After eliminating the other potential irritants, the diet cat’s can now be adjusted. The next step is a hypoallergenic food trial. This is a four to eight week period of time where foods are fed to the cat in order to determine which produces the allergic reaction. During this period of time, if a food doesn’t bring about an adverse reaction, it is a good idea to adopt that food to the pet’s regular diet. Some suggest home cooking as a solution. The test diet can have home-cooked servings of chicken, fish and even tofu added as part of the attempt to determine the food allergy of a cat. There are also specialized foods available for purchase that help a cat owner determine food allergies. A cursory search of the Internet shows that there are specialized cat foods available in order to “mix-up” your cat’s diet and determine what works and what doesn’t work. Common meat products such as herring, turkey and chicken are available.

Sometimes a longer diet trial is needed. The ideas of a continuing inhalant allergy or a fresh round of scabies still being the culprit are things to consider. Furthermore, one has to be completely sure that the food that they are feeding to the cat is the only food that the cat is taking in. A cat’s food allergy is hard to determine, but with patience, and proper trial and error, it can be determined and your pet can be healthy in a relatively short amount of time.

Any pregnant woman, who is experiencing vaginal bleeding or watery discharge during pregnancy, should be careful. When you’re pregnant, it is not only important to watch your developing changes, but abnormal symptoms, too. Women need to take not of any changes their experiencing, particularly vaginal bleeding or a watery discharge. Both of these can signal serious occurrences in your pregnancy. Depending on the level of each, there may be nothing to worry about. But in some women vaginal bleeding and watery discharge can be a problem. These need to be addressed cautiously, no matter what they result in.

Vaginal bleeding often causes pregnant women a lot of alarm. The first thought in this type of scenario, is that of a miscarriage. Miscarriage, however, is not the only reason behind vaginal bleeding in pregnant women. For some women, the reason may be quite simple. The taking of certain medications, can produce certain levels of bleeding from the vagina.

Medications, like antibiotics, have been known to cause spotting or bleeding. This is one reason why medicine usage habits during pregnancy is important. In these situations, women are dealing with some other condition or ailment, and are treating its symptoms. Sharing, this type of information, with your personal physician is a way to gage its safety, especially while expecting.

Some women will experience bleeding from the vaginal area, because they have illnesses they’re unaware of. In these cases, uterine fibroid tumors, or even cancer, can be to the culprit. This again is why communication with a physician is paramount. Doctors can look at seemingly unrelated symptoms, and occurrences and figure out what your condition may be. It may even be necessary to run tests for a proper diagnosis.

Women normally have a watery discharge, also called leukorrhea. It is usually odorless, or has only a mild odor. This discharge often looks to be milky. Pregnant women traditionally see an increase of normal discharge increases. One reason for this is the presence of more estrogen in the body. It is also encouraged by more blood flow in the entire vaginal area.

This discharge secrets from the cervix and vagina, and is often harmless to pregnant women. It is noteworthy to take caution, if at anytime mucous is present with this discharge. Mucous can signal that the mucous lining or mucous plug blocking the cervix is thinning. This typically happens only when labor is eminent.

If this type of discharge occurs during early pregnancy, this is more of a concern. For a woman nearing her due date, this discharge is probably normal. But for a woman far from the time of delivery, premature labor may have been triggered. If this is the case, seeking medical attention is paramount.

Women who are not yet 37 weeks pregnant, and are, seeing a lot of mucous, in their discharge needs to tell their doctor. This could be a timely way of averting problems with the rest of pregnancy. It is also a good means of protecting your baby’s health, and maybe even its life.

skin allergies

Skin Allergies are different for every person. Someone who gets a skin allergy can get it in a confined area or over their entire body. There are even times when a person can get them on their hands and feet, making it difficult to do every day tasks. When a person gets a skin allergy, it’s called allergic contact dermatitis. The skin has a chemical reaction to the substance it has come into contact with. In these cases, you have to physically touch it to get the allergy. Some of the culprits may even surprise you.

Testing for Skin Allergies

One way to figure out what causes skin allergies is by playing a guessing game. However, there are no winners in this one. You would test products on your skin to see if have a reaction. Don’t worry, there is an easier way. Doctors will do patch testing. They take a small piece of skin (this doesn’t hurt) and then put each patch of skin in contact with the common allergens. They look to see if there is a reaction. The doctors do all the hard work for you and you don’t have to suffer.

These are some of the most common causes of skin allergies:

1. Nickel and gold. These metals are usually found in jewelry. The nickel is found in clasps or buttons. Gold is a little more common. Many pieces are made or plated with gold. If you have an allergy to either of these metals, usually a rash will break out where the metal touched your skin. Many people tend to have a reaction to costume jewelry.

2. Balsam of Peru. This fragrance is found in many lotions and perfumes. Another name for it is myroxylon pereirae. If this is the culprit of your skin allergy, check the ingredients in perfumes and lotions you use to see if this is present.

3. Neomycin sulfate. This substance is commonly found in first aid creams and ointments. Unfortunately, a doctor might prescribe a topical cream for a previous skin rash, only for the patient to find out they also have skin allergies to this substance. It can also be found in cosmetics, soap and pet food.

4. Bacitracin. This is a topical antibiotic. Some people might use it on cuts or burns.

5. Cobalt chloride. This is a real problem for some people because this is normally found in antiperspirants. However, there are other places cobalt chloride shows up such as hair dye and pieces plated in it (buttons, snaps, tools).

6. Quaternium 15. This is a preservative found in many products than women tend to use. It can be found in self tanners, shampoo, nail polish and sunscreen. Try to find products that do not use this if you have skin allergies to Quaternium 15.
