We all love that gift opening moment comes Christmas Eve.  Ripping every wrapper until everything under the tree has been opened.  These gifts spell out a lot of character.  People love creativity.  They would always praise the gift that presents itself daintily amidst boxes in generic wrappers.  And even if they will be ripped off when the clock strikes at 12, that is beside the point.  They are presents.  They have to look presentable and pretty.  Ingenuity is a key in making your gifts look nice.  If it’s going to be the classic boxed way, first that you would have to consider is the wrapper.  You can do it with the wrappers from bookstore.  Choose plain, handmade craft wrapping paper.  This makes the gift look organic, light and appealing.  Some would think that wrappers with ultra fancy prints are the way to go.  However, it’s rather hard to play with printed patterns.  You can go for plain wrappers and then accentuate it.

While you are sorting these stuff, make sure that you design a personalized Santa letter for your child as well. It will be greatly appreciated along with gifts and tokens.

Once you have chosen your plain craft paper, this is where you could play around:  The ribbons and other ornaments.  For the skilled person who wraps gifts with expertise, you would presumably come up with how to tie and knot ribbons together.  Tie about two to three ribbons of different complementing colors that would of course be a match to your wrapping paper.  There might even be a chance that the receiver would wait longer to open the gift in appreciation to its magnificent wrap.

For the kids, put tiny embellishment like stickers that will appeal to them.  If it’s an aqua theme you’re doing this Christmas and there’s swimming gear in the box, you may put stickers of fishes and corals on the wrapper.  Even without ribbons, they would definitely look charming.

No tapes.  No seams, no uneven looking tapes.  You may use glue guns or double sided tapes to make them as inconspicuous as possible.  Tapes that stick out ruin the gift’s attractiveness.

If the gift shall be placed in a paper bag, again, choose a plain one.  Add a whimsical pattern of color at the opening with thin papers of different shades that go well with the color of the paper bag.  And then wrap the item with the same papers as well.  You may wrap them to look like huge candies with ribbons on each end.

It is also a good idea to put a personalized letter from Santa inside the bag. Your child will be surprised when he pulls the toy out and there’s a letter that came with it.

Use personalized handmade gift tags.  You wouldn’t go telling every recipient that you wrapped everything by yourself, right?  The tag adds a personal touch to every wrapped box.  Write artistically as you can, if at all possible.  But for those with a rather not-so-good handwriting, it doesn’t mean that you would have to resort to the printer.  Write recipient’s names and your message down – with a pen and your own hand.  Something as personal as this can make someone extremely happy.  Write your nickname if it’s for a good friend, but for casual acquaintances or office colleagues who are not so close to you, write the full name.  This may sound silly, but it will help, especially if you have a name as common as John or Jenny.  You will realize this if you’re giving a gift to someone who has the same name as yours.  And what if you have the same name as your boss?  See?  These tiny reminders may be nonsensical to others.  But you might realize that these do make sense once you sit flat on the floor and unload your shopping bags to reveal dozens of gifts that you have to wrap.  Happy wrapping!

allergies in children

Allergy is prevalent both in adults and babies these days. You would be alarmed to hear that out of the total population that suffers from allergies, 6% constitutes children, especially infants. You never know when an allergy will come. Okay…how does allergy occur? As soon as the immune system starts to react differently for the food items that you generally take, it means you are allergic to that type of food.

When I say babies are prone to food allergies, I’m sure many parents will wonder how and why? Am I not true in saying that for every parent, their children is their world? You give them with all the basic necessities like food, clothing, and shelter and above all, good care. It is essential that you be aware of the food items that your child is allergic to as sometimes, it may even cause death.

You get a lot of food items like pizza, burger, cheese, milk, pasta, fishes, etc. and your child may be allergic to one or more of these food items. It is the duty of each and every parent to take care of their child’s health and that too when allergies are more prevalent. Necessary steps have to be taken to ensure that the child is not experiencing any uneasiness due to allergies. You will have to be extra careful if you are introducing solid foods to your infant.

Let us see how an allergy occurs as this will help you understand how to prevent as well as manage food allergies. As soon as the child eats a food item that is allergic to him/her, IgE (antibodies) will be produced by the body. The next time when the same food is eaten by your child, IgE will inform the immune system for producing histamines. Histamines are produced to fight against the allergens. In general, allergens are harmless; however, it is the immune system that mistakes this to be harmful for the child and will start to attack it. Due to this, a child may get symptoms and signs of allergy. These symptoms may occur within few minutes or in two hours depending on the response from the immune system.

Allergic symptoms fall into two categories, namely, mild and severe. Mild symptoms include:

a) Swelling of skin, or parts of the body like ears, mouth, tongue, etc.

b) Rashes, which are itchy.

c) Discomfort in breathing

d) Vomiting

e) Diarrhea

In some cases, allergy is hereditary. Say for example, one of your family members is allergic towards milk, there are possibilities for your child to inherit this allergy. Some children do not show any signs of allergy when they start eating these food items; however, in the longer run may develop allergic signs and symptoms. Few food items that may cause allergy are:

a) Eggs

b) Milk

c) Fish

d) Peanuts

e) Treenuts

It is advisable to call the local emergency number immediately after your child shows allergic signs or symptoms. Why should you do this? It is because some allergies may even cause death. It is always good if you can detect the allergy at an earlier stage itself. If you get in touch with your pediatrician, he/she will be able to prepare and give you a plan of action to prevent allergy.

Don’t take allergy as a simple disease. Please pay proper attention to if your child is allergic towards a food item. This will save the lives of your precious and priceless gift, that is, your baby.
