You want to install granite countertops for the kitchens and you are looking at all the slabs. As you look at the different granite slabs, you notice that some of them are more expensive than the others when all them looks the same in color, size and shape. As laymen, it is impossible for us to know about the factors which will determine the price of the granite slab. In fact there are different factors apart from color, size and shape which actually determine the price of the granite slabs. What are these factors? How is the price of a granite slab determined? What makes some granite slabs more expensive than others? Read on as we analyze all these facts.

Granite is found near all the mountain ranges and some of the quarries where the granites are found are located in South America, China and the European mountain ranges. As the workers dig deep inside the quarries, they look for all the possible sources from where they can unearth this natural stone which is in great demand. It is an extremely strenuous process which is also time-consuming. Blasting is not possible, as granite will break into thousands of pieces. This makes it all the more tough to recover this stone. Special cutters are used by the workers to take out the granite from the quarries. Large blocks are cut out, but the blocks are extremely heavy. Once the granite pieces are taken out, they are taken to various factories where they are processed and made fit to be used as items of home décor.

In the factories, the rough blocks are treated and then they transform into the smooth-surfaced granite slab. Although initially it was coarse and rough, now it turns into a smooth texture and it further adds to the look of this piece making it suitable for decorative purposes. The price of the granite combines all the money which has been spent on that granite slab to create a smooth-textured surface. The cost also includes the transportation cost as the processing expenses. The patterns that are found on the granite slabs are also responsible for the expensive granite slabs. Some patterns are rare and this may make the granite slab even costlier.

The color of the stones is one of the major determinants of the price of granite. There are unique colors. However even though there can be a difference in transportation cost, color and pattern of granite, the resilience and durability of the stone is more or less high. If your budget is not that much, you can go for the common forms. Even though the stones are less expensive, they will be durable like all the others. The granite installation process is pretty complex. You can hire a professional installer who will be able to do the job with ease. It is better to choose someone who has all the knowledge and expertise for the job, than to take all the hassles by yourself! Take a good look at the available selection of granite and choose one accordingly!

In theory, any person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proved guilty. But, when it comes to substances, people are always prepared to think the worst and never let the facts get in the way of a really good urban myth. For more than a century or two, the world has been fixated with the idea that saltpeter can be used to induce impotence in men. For those of you with an interest in the scientific side of life, saltpeter is better known as potassium nitrate and, for many decades, rumor had it that this dreaded substance was craftily slipped into the food of prison inmates, those lucky enough to serve their country in the armed forces, and young men in single-sex schools and colleges. The result was peace and calm. All those unfortunate sexual urges that might have made it difficult to maintain discipline, were happily damped down.

The truth is rather more boring. Like many other chemical substances, if you were unfortunate enough to eat too much of it, it would make you sick. As a side effect of this sickness, men would tend to lose interest in sex. But the idea that a pinch or two of potassium nitrate added into food by willing accomplices among the kitchen staff would induce impotence is pure fiction. In fact, it’s the literal opposite that’s true.

For centuries, saltpeter has been added to food because it’s a preservative. Before the invention of the rerigerator, kitchens routinely salted meat to keep it edible during the long winter months. Today, the traditional cans of corned beef still contain saltpeter – it has always been man’s friend when used in moderation. Saltpeter first emerged in China about 2,000 years ago. Early experiments saw Chinese chemists getting the best and the worst results, depending on your point of view. The compost heaps containing decomposing organic matter were covered and spiked with dung and urine. When the resulting “mess” was filtered and wood ash added, this was wonderful fertilizer and the basis of fireworks for celebrations. Later, of course, it made explosives for war.

Modern science is a wonderful thing. It has built bigger and better fireworks and developed viagra as a sure-fire cure for erectile dysfunction. With the spread of refrigerators and the use of radiation to extend the shelf-life of food, there is less need for saltpeter. Indeed, because of the threat of urban terrorism, people who buy large quantities of fertilizer are monitored carefully.

But, of course, when there are not enough explosions in the bedroom, viagra is the first response for the men affected. The performance of this drug is no myth. In every clinical trial and with now more than a decade of practical experience in the real world, viagra has consistently proved itself able to produce erections hard enough for penetration. So even if modern men were to eat saltpeter in their food, there would always be a remedy to keep men’s libido on high.

A kitchen remodel not only adds significant value to your home, but it can also improve your quality of life. If you are thinking of giving your outdated kitchen a much needed overhaul, it is important to consider current kitchen trends. This will allow you to create a space not only pleases you and your family, but also appeals to prospective future buyers. Below you will find an over-view of the most current kitchen trends that will help enhance your lifestyle and the value of your home.

The Sustainable Kitchen. Eco-friendly is all the rage these days, but most notably in the kitchen where a few small changes can make a significant impact. You can use inexpensive recycled or natural materials such as recycled glass counter tops or formaldehyde-free bamboo for work surfaces and flooring. Convenient built-in recycling centers and food composters can save space and make recycling simple. The overall idea is making the kitchen effortlessly eco-friendly so that being green isn’t a sacrifice, it’s just an easy part of your everyday life. Multi-functional Convenience. Since your kitchen remodel should focus on making life easier, multi-functional features are the way to go. Some examples of this trend include sinks with accessories, such as built-in preparation boards, colanders, and/or drain trays. Storage that is both stylish and highly engineered can save you both space and frustration. Cupboard inserts and custom storage areas with adjustable dividers and pull out baskets are big value-adders. Some of today’s homes have appliances set on wheels or movable islands which allow you to easily rearrange the kitchen for convenient preparation, cleaning, and entertaining… which is not just multi-functional, but also kind of fun. The High-Tech Kitchen. Just like every other aspect of our lives, kitchens are featuring more technology than ever. A lot of this technology is focused on making the kitchen more enjoyable and adding a bit of the “wow” factor. From flat-screen televisions and computer-based entertainment systems to retracting ventilation hoods and gas burners, technology can make the kitchen more fun, convenient, and cool. The kitchen is both a social and functional space in the home. Small additions, like a small mobile device charging station, really illustrate this point. Imagine your family returning home in the evening, immediately plugging in their mobile devices, and congregating in the kitchen to catch up with each other. The Fresh, Foodie Kitchen. The rising popularity of celebrity chefs and shows like Top Chef help demonstrate a cultural shift towards culinary appreciation and fresh food preparation. The result is the growing popularity of restaurant grade appliances and features that promote fresh, healthy food preparation. Commercial grade stoves are more popular than ever. Filtered faucets and refrigerators with multiple cooling and humidity settings for keeping food fresh longer are in demand. Copper sinks have made a comeback due to their rustic appeal and natural anti-bacterial properties. State of the art food storage and fresh herbs on the window sill are easy, inexpensive ways to incorporate this trend into your kitchen. The Come-Back of Color and Shape. Unexpected flashes of color and bold shapes are all the rage, and offer a nice juxtaposition to the earthy mellowness of the eco-friendly trend. Colorful paint, tiles or back splashes add some punch to an otherwise monochromatic space. Vivid blues, oranges and corals are particularly popular. Stainless steel appliances are still accepted, but colorful appliances are more cutting-edge, and seem at once both modern and retro. Likewise, unexpected shapes – it could be anything from your windows to accessories purchased at the flea market – add interest and character to your kitchen space. The idea is to make the space fun and unique, but not obnoxious, so be careful to self edit if you find the color and shapes taking over.
